Literacy is a life-long asset. The Montessori approach
to literacy provides the young child with literacy equipment
which suits their age and interest.
For example, letters and sounds are introduced with "sandpaper
letters" whilst children still enjoy touching and feeling.
This individualised approach to learning phonetically allows the child to absorb
this information at their own pace, preparing them for
further education at a Montessori school, or for the scheduled
learning in regular schooling.
Books, picture cards, language games and further activities
build on their literacy foundations.
"Ye can lead a man up to the university, but you can't make him think."
~ Finley Peter Dunne
"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."
~ William Butler Yeats
